Magic's Alley Cat (Kota)

Bio.: Kota is a type of horse referred to as "gaited",
though this term is a bit of a misnomer, since all horses
are gaited. The common gaits that horses have are the
walk, trot, canter, and gallop. What constitutes a gait for a
horse is the order of footfalls and how many feet are on
the ground at one time. Kota has EXTRA gaits...in other
words...extra ways in which he can place his feet. Mrs.

Amy likes to refer to the difference between a "gaited" and "non-gaited" horse as similar to the
difference in a ten-speed and three-speed bicyle...more "gears" to choose from. Mrs. Amy prefers
the term "easy gaited", as Kota and horses like him have extra gaits, commonly called saddle gaits,
which are very comfortable to ride since the rider does not bounce as in the commonly known trot.
If you are interested in learning more about gaited horses, Mrs. Amy highly recommends the

gaited horses...horses that are not sored or padded. Almost of Gingerbread Acres' horses are kept
barefoot (not shod).
Kota was Mrs. Amy's first horse after 19 years of being "horse-less". Amy bought him from a farm
south of Ocala, FL. He was four and a half years old at the time and was bred and born in Tennessee.
Kota is Mrs. Amy's personal horse and personal favorite (don't tell any of the other horses!!!) Mrs.
Amy has studied natural horsemanship methods and put them into practice with Kota for the last five
and a half years. Mrs. Amy bought him to be her trail horse/companion, but has also shown him in
two shows, in the gaited division, and one of Bess Wahl's extreme obstacle challenges. Amy and Kota
won 3rd out of 13 in the ACTHA obstacle trail ride in Ocala in the fall of 2010. Kota and Mrs. Amy are
happiest on the trail.

| None of our horses are for sale. MUCH time and energy has been put into their training. We plan to be in this business a long time, if God wills, and our horses are a vital part of the business. They are investments and partners. When you come to take lessons with us, you can be assured that you will see the same horses week after week....unless we add to our "herd", which has grown from two horses in July of 2009 to 9 horses as of March 2011. |
